Electrical Inspections

Electrical Permit Fees

The Electrical Inspection Division administers and enforces the National Electrical Code relating to electrical systems and equipment installation. Additionally, this division is involved in the maintenance of craft standards with regard to adherence to established codes and regulations, qualities of materials, workmanship and safety precautions throughout the City and police jurisdiction.

WHO MAY OBTAIN AN ELECTRICAL PERMIT?

Electrical permits are issued to Electrical Contractors who hold a current State of Alabama Electrical Contractors License.

ELECTRICAL SIGN PERMITS

Electrical permits are issued for the installation of electrical wiring on or within illuminated and/or neon signs to Electrical Contractors who hold a current State of Alabama Electrical Contractors License. 

PERMITS ISSUED TO INDIVIDUALS

Electrical permits may be issued to individuals without the above mentioned certification for Commercial (C-10) and Residential (R-10) building reconnects if no additional wiring is necessary and for temporary service poles for construction or similar use.

LICENSING REQUIRED

Before any person, firm or corporation shall engage in the electrical business in Montgomery, Alabama, they shall be a qualified Electrical Contractor as set forth in the Code of Ordinances for the City of Montgomery. A business license shall be obtained from the City of Montgomery Finance Department at (334) 241-2036.

PERMIT APPLICATION AND FEES

No person, firm or corporation shall connect or cause to be connected any electrical wiring without first having filed an application and obtaining a permit for said work from the Department of Electrical Inspections. Permit inspection fees shall be collected as the permits are issued and are payable by cash or check.  Permit applications and fee schedules may be obtained at the Electrical Inspections office or may be viewed and downloaded from this website.
