Category: RV & Boats

The following regulations apply to recreational vehicles stored outside an approved travel trailer park:

a.    Recreational vehicles may not be stored on public streets.

b.    Recreational vehicles shall be stored in such a manner as to be substantially hidden from public view.

c.     Recreational vehicles stored on private property shall be stored behind building setback lines as defined by the Zoning Ordinance.

d.    Individual recreational vehicles may be stored on private property as long as they are in compliance with the above requirements.  Upon objection by residents of neighboring property, the Board of Adjustment shall have the power to modify the above requirements or to revoke the privilege of storing recreational vehicles on private property in individual cases.  Provided, however, that such action of the Board shall not take place until after a public hearing on the matter has been held.

  • Submit complaint to 311 with the address of the location of the recreational vehicle. 311 can be reached by calling 311, 334-625-4636, or by email to 311@montgomeryal.gov.
  • A letter will be sent to the property owner and occupant (if not owner occupied) advising them of the regulations above, and that if they are not in compliance to either bring the property into compliance, or make application for a special exception to maintain the location of the recreational vehicle, through our office to be placed on the next available agenda of the Board of Adjustment.
  • If no other complaints are registered, the case is closed.
  • If another complaint is registered, another letter is sent to the property owner and occupant (if not owner occupied), and a Planning Controls staff member will go out and take pictures.
  • If we continue to receive complaints, a petition will be filed in municipal court.
